Bhangra is actually a folk dance native to Punjab that is performed during the Baishakhi and other harvest festivals. There are many different types of Bhangra like Julli, Dhamal, Daankara, Jhumar, Luddi etc. but the characteristics common to them all are: the emphasis on dance rather than music, the costumes worn by the dancers, the lyrics which mainly tend to focus on social issues like love, marriage, etc. while some also tell stories. Some are even about revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh. In the last 20 years or so, Bhangra music has spread overseas thanks to the large number of NRI’s especially in England and America. Many westerners have also come to enjoy the music thanks to its rhythm and fast beats. Many new styles of Bhangra Punjabi songs have emerged out of this such as Reggae versions, Remixes, Rap etc.
There are many famous artists and bands both from India and abroad, who have made popular Bhangra music. Some of these artists are Dr. Zeus, Bally Sagoo, Gubi Sandhu, Punjabi MC, Rouge, Mehsopuria, Gurdas Mann, Aman Hayer, Jazzy B, E=MC, PBN, Lembher, PMC, S. Bindrakhia, DJ Sanj and many others. It is true that now a days the Punjabi Bhangra songs have become far too westernized, but they still retain a more Indian flavor and as such many are used in Bollywood movies. Some famous songs are Kangna, Das Ja, Bindhiya Chamke Ji, Tera Yaar Bolda, Oye Hoye, Kanthe Wale, Dil Nai Lagda, Dil Lutiya, Romeo, Ari Ari, Mahi Ve, Dushmani, Jaan Punjabi, Balle Balle Hogay Mithro and many more.
Owing to their huge popularity, you can find all these Punjabi Bhangra songs online and can download them free of charge in mp3 format. The Punjabi Bhangra songs mp3s are arranged in various categories such as the latest or oldest, popularity etc. and you can also get lyrics, videos and many other extras online also.
